Not surprising one bit. I believe there are countless youth addicted to video games; they get out of bed and go directly to video games, foregoing outdoor activities and human interaction---sunrise to sunset.

I have been checking for a new blog topic and thought the town primary would be high on the list of library staff interest. As it pertains to the Library system in Irondequoit the differences are well defined.

Current leadership---Heyman:
Attempted to control library board decisions----ie union issues.
Slashed the budget as other departments got significant increases.
Is against renovating branch buildings----even basic items.
Believed Ridge Road is a good location for youth library services.
Openly for consolidation even though 3 surveys show people are against it.
May present the much referenced secret "corridor plan" for vote.

Challenger Ament:
Clearly stated the Board is highly qualified to make all decisions.
States Library would immediately be funded to make up for slashes.
States Branches would immediately be renovated.
Consolidation is an option if the public will changes to consolidation.
Asked that the $1 million bond giving a developer a new road be canceled and the money spent on the libraries.
Is adamantly pro-library, education, and reading.

The differences are significant.

I imagine the politics of Board members, so connected to the Party, does not make for comfortable open public debate on the issues facing the future of the Library System as it relates to leadership. The very reason Library systems are divorced from government is to create an atmosphere open to honest debate on all issues, politic or not.

Quite an illuminating book, indeed. It drastically changed the way I look at traffic.

I have become a late merger after reading this book. I still receive angry looks from annoyed drivers, and I wish I could pull over and explain to them why they too should become late mergers.

What a Wonderful story this is.

Thank you Peter Kelderhouse and Sherman Furniture Rentals!!

Money is scarce in the library budget so much so that there has been a reduction in library hours. Which in these economic times I don't agree with. The library is such a great free resource for so many families. I am so happy to see this volunteer effort! Thank you very much!

Congratulations to Irondequoit for coming out and voting!

The right to vote was given to us by the people, not the government and the people came out!

I was so pleasantly surprised to see so many residents, what a GREAT day for Irondequoit!!

Over 5000 people chose to participate in what is rarely offered in town governments----a democratic vote on a single spending issue.

Town Hall did a good job organizing and accommodating residents on tuesday.

It was a wonderful to witness so many people desirous of participation in the process.

Personnel, Board and Kings Park Lease Scheme proponents may find comments of town leaders of interest.

Library listed as a "Downside"

I was looking for a note and reread:
jalala Says:
April 29, 2008 at 8:21 am

jalala----what did you think of the interior designs that were incorporated in the Branch Renderings of the Alfred Projects?

As I mentioned, I supplied the students with all the information from Thomas and Panz. Appears the students were diligent in their review and application of the information I supplied. The floor plans are spectacular and positively incorporate far more in conceptual design than anything yet presented by the Town Board of Irondequoit.

It was not I who recklessly slashed the 2009 library budget to near 2003 levels!

The Town Board liaison to the Library not only voted against the library's best interests, but also spoke irresponsibly about the staffs care of the facility.

Fred--- love the third branch idea. Who gets it? East or West? If it were to contain Town Board information, then perhaps the Amusement Park would be an appropriate location.
